her purpose

Hummingbird Ecotherapy & Recovery (HER) is a femme & queer led non profit organization based in Ontario. We are a co-operative network of diverse community workers and leaders, nature-based practitioners, artists and change-makers.

HER Roots

We are rooted in the belief that sustaining frontline workers and social movements requires more than just individual self-care. It demands systemic change, community care & solidarity.

Burnout, compassion fatigue, and disillusionment are not personal failures. Rather, burnout is the result of underfunded systems, exploitative policies, and social structures that force people to work beyond their limits. Connection to each other and to the earth is a radical act of resistance against these forms of systemic harm.

We believe that access to ecotherapeutic practices are a right, not a privilege, especially for marginalized communities and those who support them.

We recognize that oppression is intersectional, and its impacts are compounded across identities, histories, and systems. Our work is rooted in the belief that true justice is collective, and none of us are free until all of us are free.

HER Approach

We facilitate accessible community-care and ecotherapeutic programs for people within the social justice and social service sectors. Our goal is to provide customized, community-led programming that fosters sustainable work practices, individual and collective well-being, and systemic resilience.

The nature of HER is play, humor, arts, storytelling, community connection and nature-based practices. We create spaces for decompression, skill-building, nervous system recovery, and the processing of grief and frustration.

Guided by the collective experiences of those we partner with – we collaborate to dismantle the systemic barriers that make care and recovery inaccessible, fostering healthier & more just communities.

HER Commitments

Sustaining social movements means supporting the people behind them, and we are committed to building the spaces, relationships, and advocacy necessary to make systemic change possible.

HER is guided by anti-oppressive, intersectional feminist principles and a commitment to collective healing.

HER Vision

HER vision is a world where systems support people, not the other way around. Where freedom is defined by the needs of the most marginalized beings. Where we centre eco over ego. Where we are all free of all forms of violence and where there is a deep understanding that human health is inseparable from the larger web of life on Earth.

HER is more than a wellness initiative, it is a movement to reclaim the wisdom of rest, play, joy, and connection with each other and land as essential tools for human happiness, evolution and sustaining social and environmental change.
